Black River Harbor, Ironwood MI 2018

Black River Harbor was an active fishing harbor on Lake Superior.  It is one of the few natural harbors along the steep bluffed shoreline.  The Civilian Conservation Corps  built a  suspension bridge across the river and a pavilion at the harbor.  These are now part of the Ottawa National Forest. You can read more on their website about the harbor https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/ottawa/recarea/?recid=16846

The North Country Trail crosses the Black River via the Suspension Bridge.  There are 5 scenic waterfalls along the trail.  One, Rainbow Falls is visible from both the east and west sections of the North Country Trail.  All on the west side of the river are accessed by long, winding staircases down the steep river bluff to the falls.  There is a very nice campground about a half mile from the harbor.
