Castle Dome Museum Chapter III
This is the third chapter about Castle Dome Mine. It introduces a new idea, patented mines. A patented mine is one where the owner owns the land, the mineral rights from what is above ground to the center of the earth, the owner can have permanent buildings, and doesn’t have to mine. I suspect that the owner pays property taxes since they own the land. Compare this to a mining claim where there is no ownership of anything, no permanent buildings are allowed, one has to mine or at least make an attempt to mine, and make the annual payment to the Federal Government on time or all is lost and gone back to the Federal Government.
The section of the museum where I took pictures is closed this year due to vandalism. Seems like the 10 miles, 7 of which are rough gravel, from the state highway would be a long way for some people to come to tip over a cow and have fun destroying property, but that’s just my opinion.
I hope you enjoy this and come back for more. One of these days I’ll go down into the Hull mine. Meanwhile spring is coming here as the ocotillo are greening up and some are blooming.
